ARCHIBALD CAMPBELL TAIT (1811-1882), born in Edinburgh, became Archbishop of Canterbury.


PETER GUTHRIE TAIT (Scotish) 1831-1901 Physicist, mathematician, laid the foundation for vector analysis, Professor of Natural Philosophy at Edinburgh, Professor of Mathematics at Belfast, colleague of Lord Kelvin.


JAMES EDWARD TAIT (Canadian) 1887-1918 Awarded the Victoria Cross


ALDERMAN PETER TAIT - Mayor of Limerick 1866,1867 and 1868


AGNES TAIT (1894-1981) American painter, printmaker and graphic designer with exhibits at the Smithsonian American Art Museum


THOMAS TAIT ( ? - 1859) Thomas Tait entered the Indian Army as infantry cadet in 1825 and who distinguished himself as commander of 'Taits' Horses, in the 3rd Bengal irregular cavalry in the Afghan expedition in 1842. He died in the arms of his youngest brother, Archibald (see first entry) in 1859 and buried at Fulham.

JOHN, WILLIAM and GAVIN TAIT
John, the elder brother (born 1829) was Scottish heavyweight games champion for 10 years. Johns reign as champion was followed by that of his brother William who was champion for 2 years. The younger Tait brother Gavin , who may have been best of all was injured, as a youth. This prevented him from taking part in the heavy events. He became however one of the best sprinters in Britain of that ere.


IVAN TAIT - Daniel Stewarts rugby player who was Scottish sprint champion just after World war one.


JOHN TAIT - winner of the Powderhall sprint in 1933 or 1944


ALEXANDER TAIT- (AKA SANDY TAIT). Played for Spurs and Scotland. Played for Spurs in the 1901 FA cup final.
